Demmer Scholars Natural Resources Science Policy Internships

COURSE and INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW

This course will review and evaluate how each branch of the federal government, as well as nongovernment entities (including the media), affect the development and implementation of federal government policy in the natural resources.  The course will be taught through one two-hour lecture and discussion sessions each week, augmented by nine half-day weekend field trips designed to ground class participants in the policy-making arena.  Additionally, each class participant will complete a twelve-week, 40 per week paid internship with a government or nongovernment organization active in natural resources policy-making in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

Upper level undergraduates and graduate students.

INTERESTED?

Send Dr. Kelly Millenbah (millenba@msu.edu) a current resume ASAP but no later than by Friday, November 18th, 2011.  You will be required to hold a 30 minute face-to-face interview with Mr. Rey in late November / early December (an additional interview date may be added depending on applicant pool size).  This is a competitive process!!

PAY

Internships will earn between $1000 – $1500 per month depending on where you are placed for your internship.  Interns will be responsible for their own transportation to DC, lodging and other living expenses. 

CREDITS

ALL students MUST enroll for 3 credits of ANR 491 (Professional Internship in Ag and Natural Resources), no exceptions.
